  • Overview

    The remote Preceptorship Educator will assess the proficiency testing results, prepare an individualized educational remediation plan, audit practice charts coded by recent graduates of RHIA and RHIT degree programs, guiding their education in areas lacking refinement with the ultimate goal of bringing forth fully educated coders capable of meeting production and quality goals.


    1. Perform remote reviews of medical records to determine opportunities for our client facilities to improve specificity and meet increased documentation requirements within ICD-9 and ICD-10
    2. Using reference materials and tools to ensure accuracy of review of recommendations provided
    3. Generate reports providing logs highlighting findings of these audits, opportunities for improvement, and detailed commentary to the learners
    4. Develop written reports summarizing findings and presenting these to the learners and the client
    5. Create educational materials and content to assist in the improvement and education of the learners based on findings within the audits
    6. Manage high-volume pace of audits both by paper and direct access
    7. Work with fellow auditors and ICD-10 Coding Education Coordinator to handle multiple Preceptorship projects and collaborate on findings and best practices
    8. Share findings with the Education Development team to further enhance ICD-9 and  ICD-10 education offerings
    9. Conduct individual and group learner education sessions or on-site sessions to review findings


    RHIA or RHIT, and/or CCS
    AHIMA ICD-10 Approved Trainer  
    Coding experience (5 – 10 years)

    Outstanding knowledge of the medical record, ICD-9 and ICD-10 principles and documentation requirements
    Must be detail oriented and have the ability to work independently
    Computer knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Adobe, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
    Must exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills
    Ability to develop reports and presentations

    Prefer educator experience at college

    Auditing Experience required

    Previous management experience preferred

    Customer facing skills

    Good communication skills
