The coding manager reports to the Director of HIM Operations and is primarily responsible for assisting the Director of HIM. Operations to ensure all operational issues are addressed in a timely manner and be an office coding resource to Peak staff. The coding manager is responsible for managing all quality audits and training audits in coordination with existing account ‘lead staff’ and processes. Auditing may be done ‘remotely’ or at the client site. Travel may be required although intermittent. The coding manager acts as a project manager with accounts as assigned. This roll also coordinates and is accountable for the correct reporting of time and productivity by staff  to meet all Peak and client billing and invoicing requirements.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Assist Director of HIM Operations with daily operations
  • Monitor workflow, productivity and quality at all client sites
  • Monitor and assess workload for all employees
  • Monitor employee performance against established performance metrics
  • Identification of coder educational needs through continual monitoring of coder and auditor accuracy rates
  • Monitor and recommend staffing levels based on volumes and project goals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with all Peak employees
  • Serve as office resource for all coding related questions (internal & external)
  • Monitor and enforce Peak’s compliance and quality program
  • Ensure adherence to State and National Practice Standards for coding
  • Perform, or manage the performance of, all quality and compliance audits (internal and those reported to clients)
  • Attend meetings within and outside the facility as needed and requested to provide input and act as a coding information resource/expert
  • Ensure Peak’s compliance with all regulatory agencies
  • Ensure Peak is HIPAA compliant at all times
  • Provide project status reports to Director of HIM Operations as requested
  • Maintain all CEUs required for position and attend educational seminars as needed
  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time

Qualifications

Required:

  • C.C.S., RHIT, or RHIA
  • 5 + years coding and auditing experience
  • Experience with remote coding and associated software applications
  • Proficiency with MS word, excel and power point
  • Ability to use coding references such as (Coding Clinic, CPT assistant, etc.)
  • Understanding of physician query processes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with 3M and Quadramed software applications
  • Basic understanding of  healthcare billing / accounting systems
  • Basic understanding of healthcare revenue cycle
